SOCIAL MINISTRY

The Social Ministry works to meet the needs in the congregational family, the local community and the church at large. The following is a sampling of service and outreach ministries at St. John's:

Outreach Ministries

God’s Work Our Hands Outreach Ministry

St John’s Lutheran Church Parish Food pantry offers assistance to those with food insecurities. We have a drive thru once a month on the first Thursday of each month. We begin at 8:30 and finish at 10:30. We also help with food emergencies as needed.

Saints Closet- Our closet offers new and slightly used clothes for all ages through adults. We have clothes, shoes, hygiene items, and household items. All is free to those quarterly during our Outreach Ministry.

Milk Ministry -We started our Milk Ministry as a challenge to donate 10 gallons of milk to your favorite food pantry. We now give away 100 gallons of milk per month during our regular monthly food giveaway on the first Thursday of each month.

Table of Grace. This ministry provides a meal to shut ins and those going through a difficult time quarterly. Table of Grace also attends community events at Cherryville Area Ministries and the Community School Supply Drive and Christmas Assistance and prepare the best hotdogs around. During our monthly outreach we provide a drink and a snack or breakfast item to enjoy while waiting for drive thru for our food and milk give away on the first Thursday of each month.

Backpack Weekend Food Program.

St John’s partner with Gaston County schools to sponsor a school to provide a bag of food. The students are selected by the counselor at the school that would benefit from this program. This food is selected by a nutritionist for the age of the students for the correct amount of calories and nutrition. The bags are delivered each week on Thursday for the student to have food on the weekends. No child should ever go hungry.
